Ethernet-Serial bridge configuration

by Daniel Sentenac last modified 2014-10-21 13:46

In this section we describe the configuration of a Netcom ethernet-serial bridge server

For more info on the EasySync Netcom devices see the dedicated page at EasySync were also an update user manual can be found

The configuration is done using the cdrom shipped with the device on a Windows platform. The device must have its serial switches all on the "on" position.

1) SETUP WITH NEW DEVICE USING SERIAL PORT

  1. Put the RS232 setting jumper on the Bridge (OFF OFF for a two ports bridge)
  2. Configure Hyperterminal on a Windows PC with seetings indicated on the bridge
  3. Connect a Serial cable from PC to bridge
  4. In server configuration, set the IP, Default Gateway as shown below
  5. Put back the Data settings jumper  (ON ON for a two ports bridge)
  6. Reboot the device !

Example of Server settings:
    • example for a device on 75 network:
      1. IP : 193.205.75.154
      2. Netmask : 255.255.255.0
      3. Broadcast: 193.205.75.255
      4. Default Gateway: 193.205.75.1
      5. Name Server: 193.205.75.29
    • example for a device on 73 network :
      1. IP:193.205.73.142
      2. Netmask:255.255.255.0
      3. Broadcast:193.205.73.255
      4. Default Gateway: 193.205.73.2
      5. Name Server: 193.205.73.91
    • example for a device on hidden network :
      1. IP:192.168.103.31
      2. Netmask:255.255.255.0
      3. Broadcast:192.168.103.255
      4. Default Gateway: 192.168.103.1
      5. Name Server: 193.205.72.40

2) SETUP WITH NEW DEVICE USING DHCP (NOT ADVISED)

  1. connect the device on DHCP (in user room for example) plug.
  2. Connect a noteboob on DHCP also
  3. run the  vsncom  software on windows, it will scan the DHCP network and find the device
  4. Take note of the temporary address of the device on DHCP then forget about vnscom (Close it!).
  5. Using the known address, reach the device from the web interface and enter the network settings in the "SERVER CONFIGURATION" corresponding to the network you want to use (Remember to set DHCP Disabled)
  6. Click save on vsncom and then unplug the device
  7. Connect the device on the final network and check the access to the device server web page. ex : http://193.205.75.154
  8. In the serial configuration page you can configure the serial parameter of the bridge, in particular select the "TCP raw server" data transfer mode, the baudrate, and the port value
  9. In case of connection failure you can try to reboot remotely the server clicking on the reboot tab

IN CASE YOU NEED TO CHANGE THE SETUP OF AN ALREADY INSTALLED DEVICE USE THE WEB INTERFACE AND UPDATE THE SERVER CONFIGURATION DIRECTLY !!!
